The Adoption of the eSourcing Software

Recently, in certain industry sectors, eSourcing software has become a bit of a buzzword but what it actually is, how it can add value and how well it’s being adopted by users is still often misunderstood. Many people assume that eSourcing software is just a fad and hasn’t proven its worth in the business world when in reality the movement towards eSourcing started over a decade ago.

In 2011 a white paper by Christopher J commander cialis france. Dwyer & Constantine G Limberakis (Aberdeen Group Analysts) found that

·         41% of surveyed companies made use of eSourcing as a procurement tool

·         This rose to 57% when the calculation was restricted to companies regarded as “best in class”

·         On average only 29% of total procurement spending took place via eSourcing platforms.

On the surface these statistics may look acceptable but when you view them against the background of overall use of technology it can really change the view of eSourcing adoption. The last few decades have seen the use of technology in the workplace from being largely for technical and academic people to now when ITC usage is so ubiquitous that it’s hard to imagine any serious business running without people using desktop PCs, laptops or smart phones. These devices have become an indispensable part of business.

With that in mind it does seem odd that so many skilled procurement professionals make use of all the latest technology for communication and general business practices but still try to use antiquated tools to manage their sourcing activities. There are still many businesses operating using basic tools such as Excel instead of platforms with customizable functions specialized for the procurement environment.

Of course there are many reasons why adoption of eSourcing software has been so slow in the business environment. Many of which we’ve discussed previously in our blog with suggestions on how to overcome these obstacles. If you wish to take your business to the next level though, eSourcing may be the best bet for cost effective and time efficient solutions for your companies outsourcing needs.
